Is Terrell Owens next? Is it possible that Mike Shanahan and Washington will look to T.O. as the next piece in their offensive puzzle.
It has been 6 years since Owens and McNabb played together and certainly it was no secret there was bad blood between them that continued on even after Terrell left the Eagles.
However in the world of sports, six years is a very long time and last season Owens seemed to mellow, maybe even mature.
McNabb is 34 and history has shown, prone to mistakes, mistakes like he had at the end of his one Super Bowl appearance. Donavan needs to be surrounded by play makers that can take the pressure off and help carry the offense. Clinton Portis is one heck of a running back when he is not injured, the key thing being, not injured.
Washington signed Larry Johnson and Willie Parker to back up Portis, Parker is still has question marks as to whether he is still a legit back. As of late Johnson isn't considered a premiere back, he is thought of more as a clean up guy coming in after the game is well in hand.
Adding to the Washington woes is Antwaan El leaving the Skins and going back to Pittsburgh. Combine that with the uncertainty of tight end Chris Cooley trying to come back from a severely broken ankle, an Owens deal doesn't seem so far fetched.
It is possible Owens just might be the guy they need. When he and McNabb were teamates, Donavan had his best season ever. Connecting for 3,875 yards, 31 touchdowns and only 8 picks. McNabb finished his season with Terrell with his best ever quarterback rating of 104.7.
Given all the question marks about McNabb's supporting cast, getting Owens is starting to make sense. Don't be surprised if the next big announcement coming from the Washington RedSkins is a 1 year contract with Terrell Owens.
