Life certainly has irony in it with the funny twists and turns our paths take.
I was reflecting back on Boise States running back Ian Johnson and how he has signed a free agency contract with the Minnesota vikings and wondering if he has not had similar thoughts to mine.
To explain I must digress back in time to the 2006 Fiesta Bowl featuring Adrian Peterson and the Oklahoma Sooners vs The Boise State Broncos,
The Sooners landed Christmas day in Phoenix to play the Broncos New Years day evening 2007 for the Fiesta Bowl.
That 2006 season was Ian's sophomore year and his break out season, culminating with him being Boise State's first ever candidate for the Heisman Trophy.
A broken collar bone had kept A.D. out half the season and precluded him from shattering the Oklahoma rushing record. The Fiesta Bowl was where he expected to break the record held by Billy Sims, who was in town for the game.
When Peterson landed the press interviewed him on many things and one of the questions he was ask, what did he think of Boise State's Ian Johnson? Ian told me Peterson's reply was Ian who?
For those of you that don't know, Peterson and Sooners watched the last play of the game that had Ian who running the Statue of Liberty Left into the end zone for the winning two point conversion. Now a play in football history and winner of an Espy award.
Now Peterson is the star of the Vikings and certainly one of the best running backs in the NFL and Ian will be trying to make the team.
I have no doubt A.D. is a class act on and off the field and will do what he can to make Johnson welcome and help in any way can to help Ian make the team.
It is just one of life's funny twists and turns, and as Paul Harvey would say, now you know the rest of the story.......good day.
