Tuesday appears to be a land mark day for the Big 12. Four Boards of Regents from Big 12 schools meet and decide......whether they will stay with the conference or move on.
Most eyes will be on the Texas Longhorns who many think will bolt. also in the public cross hairs is Oklahoma, another conference "blue blood" that is expected to move to the PAC 10.
Another story that started gaining traction yesterday is a merger of the Big 12 and the MWC who on Friday invited Boise State to join their conference. It could save the Big 12 from extinction but is it realistic?
The advantages of such a merger are many. Should the Big 12 stay alive, the schools that abandoned ship would have to pony of the exit fees and remaining schools would be assured their income from the hoops tournaments. Also they would retain their AQ BCS status and that would benefit the 10 teams from the Mountain West Conference.
The question I have, is if the Big 12 does become a ghost would the BCS offer the MWC AQ status. Based on what I have seen in the past from the BCS, I doubt they would, they seem not to want to share, and leaving things as is, without the Big 12 would mean more money for the remaining conferences.
One thing for sure, the water is as clear as the Louisiana Gulf Coast, but will be resolved quicker if government stays out of it.
