Umpire Ejects all Fans in The Stands

I think this falls in the, " what was he thinking " category.

At a local highs school baseball game in West Burlington, Iowa and umpire ejected all the fans, emptying the stands. Involved were over 100 fans that the umpire deemed as behaving in an unruly manner.

I have seen coaches and players ejected from games, but the all the fans in the stands, that is a first. Can you imagine what would happen in Oakland if the field umpire tried to eject the fans for being unruly. Break out the riot gear for sure.

Umpire Don Briggs said the student athletes were fine during the Thursday game between Winfiled-Mount Union and West Burlington, however he could not say the same for the cheering sections.

west Burlkington Superintendent James Sleister said he saw no issues and suggested the umpire had over reacted.

After a 40 minute delay that involved police, no arrests were made, the game resumed and West Burlington went on to win 12- 11.

To the umpire I have to ask, what were you thinking?
